$100,000 bail for driver in wrong-way crash in Rainier Valley
Posted by John de Leon
-- From Times staff reporter Sara Jean Green:
A judge on Monday found probable cause to hold a 21-year-old man for investigation of felony hit-and-run and two counts of vehicular assault following a collision early Saturday in Seattle's Rainier Valley.
Juan Carlos Martinez-Reyes, of Seattle, was allegedly driving with a suspended license at the time of the 2:49 a.m. crash in the 9600 block of Rainier Avenue South, according to a probable-cause statement which outlines the case against him. At his bail hearing on Monday, a judge ordered Martinez-Reyes held on $100,000 bail, according to the King County Prosecutor's Office.
Seattle police said Martinez-Reyes was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe north when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Honda Civic. Three men were thrown from the SUV and landed in the roadway. Two were seriously injured: one man suffered a head injury and could not breathe on his own while the second man suffered multiple pelvic fractures, according to the probable cause statement.
The female driver of the Honda Civic and her female passenger were treated by medics at the scene.
Police later found Martinez-Reyes behind the wheel of his SUV, which was parked at the Atlantic City boat ramp, in the 9000 block of Seward Park Avenue South, the statement says. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment and a mandatory blood draw before being booked into jail.
