Kayaker missing in Lake Washington identified as Bellevue man
Posted by John de Leon
UPDATE at 4:58 p.m.: After Monday's effort, the search for Christopher Rominski of Bellevue has been suspended, according to Bellevue police.
The kayaker who is missing and presumed drowned in Lake Washington has been identified as Christopher Rominski, 46, of Bellevue, according to police.
Family members reported Rominski missing Saturday after he failed to return home from a kayaking outing at Bellevue's Enatai Beach Park. Rominski's vehicle was located in the parking lot near the beach.
On Saturday, a witness on shore saw someone fall out of a kayak near the Newport Shores boat launch, about 200 yards from land. The witness called authorities about 3:45 p.m. after failing to see the person get back into the kayak.
Rominski's family later identified the kayak as belonging to the Bellevue man.
The search is being called a recovery, rather than a rescue, because there's little chance the kayaker could have survived in the cold Lake Washington water for very long, Coast Guard spokesman Nate Littlejohn said Sunday.
