Fire damages vacant house in Kent

Posted by John de Leon

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire that damaged a vacant house Monday night in Kent.

The fire was reported at 10:22 p.m. in a two-story, single-family house in the 26100 block of 114th Avenue Southeast, according to Capt. Kent Ohashi, public information officer for the Kent Fire Department. Smoke and flames were coming from the second story of the house when the first fire units arrived.

A live power line came down when the fire burned through the connection to the house. Puget Sound Energy responded and disconnected the power source. No one was injured fighting the blaze, said Ohashi.

The owner, who was contacted and came to the scene, told firefighters the home's last occupants had moved out about a month ago, Ohashi said.
