--From Times staff reporter Sara Jean Green:
A 17-year-old Auburn girl is bound to be in big trouble for destroying a 1997 BMW early Monday in an apparent drunken driving incident on northbound Interstate 5.
According to the State Patrol, a male driver called 911 after seeing the girl's BMW crash into a guardrail in Federal Way, tearing up 15 feet of guardrail and puncturing one of her front tires. The man followed the BMW until it broke down on the off-ramp to South 320th Street, said Trooper Christina Martin.
When a trooper arrived at the scene, the girl claimed she'd fallen asleep at the wheel, Martin said. She later admitted she'd been drinking at a friend's house in Tacoma and her blood alcohol content registered .084, more than four times the .02 limit for minors, Martin said.
"She hit the guardrail and wiped that out. She drove that car until it wouldn't drive any more," Martin said.
