DUI patrols increased in King County through Labor Day

Posted by John de Leon

Starting today and continuing through Sept. 6, extra DUI patrols will be hitting King County roads and highways looking for impaired drivers.

It's all part of the "Drive Hammered, Get Nailed" program that is said to be the largest summer DUI enforcement campaign ever, with 172 agencies participating in state.

In King County, the agencies participating in the campaign are police departments from Algona, Auburn, Bellevue, Black Diamond, Burien, Clyde Hill, Covington, Des Moines, Enumclaw, Federal Way, Issaquah, Kent, Kirkland, Maple Valley, Mercer Island, Newcastle, Normandy Park, North Bend, Pacific, Port of Seattle, Redmond, Renton, Sammamish, SeaTac, Seattle, Snoqualmie and Tukwila, in addition to the State Patrol. Also, the Bothell Police Department will conduct patrols as part of the Snohomish County DUI and Target Zero Task Force.

According to the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, the summer months produce the highest number of DUI-related traffic deaths in the entire year. Labor Day weekend is one of Washington's deadliest holidays, averaging more than seven deaths each year, the commission says.
