Police: Driver runs red light, hits pedestrians in crosswalk
Posted by John de Leon
A driver, who witnesses said ran a red light Thursday night, struck two pedestrians in a crosswalk, sending both to the hospital, Seattle police said.
The accident happened at around 7 p.m. as the driver, heading west on Roy Street at First Avenue North, went through a red light before hitting a man and a woman on the west side of the intersection. The man rolled onto the hood of the vehicle and struck his head on the windshield, police said.
Seattle Fire Department medics treated the victims -- the man is in his 80s and the woman in her 70s -- at the scene and took them to Harborview Medical Center. Physicians told police their injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
The driver was examined at the scene by an SPD Drug Recognition Expert. The driver, who showed no signs of impairment, was questioned and released pending further investigation, according to police.
