A 51-year-old Seattle man with a previous hate-crime conviction is facing the same charges again for allegedly assaulting a transgender person at a bus stop in Ballard last month.

Daniel Patrick Woodward was charged with malicious harassment on Thursday.

Charging papers said Woodward approached a person who was dressed as a woman at a bus stop and made derogatory comments about her sexual orientation before kicking the victim in the neck and punching her in the face.

The incident occurred at about 3:50 p.m. on May 30, near the intersection of 15th Avenue Northwest and Northwest Market Street.

The victim was treated at Ballard Swedish Hospital for pain to her face and neck, court papers said.

At the time of his arrest, Woodward had a no-bail felony warrant for escape. His previous convictions include three assaults, reckless endangerment and false reporting, according to court documents.
