Daily News: After throat slit, dog thrives in new home

Posted by John de Leon

Harley, a 5-pound Chihuahua who nearly died after his throat was deliberately slit, is on the mend and living with a new family, according to the Peninsula Daily News.

Harley was found Feb. 2 bleeding from a four-inch slice across his throat after he had been abandoned on a logging road west of Port Angeles. He was stitched up that same day by veterinarian Dr. Charles Schramm, who said of the injury, "It wasn't a rip, it was a clean cut.

Schramm told the Daily News this was the first time he had seen a dog with its throat slit after nearly 20 years treating dogs with gunshot wounds, pierced by arrows and intentionally run over by cars.

"It just broke my heart that someone would treat an animal like that," said Monte Mogi, the retired Air Force master sergeant who found Harley on the logging road.

Harley not only survived his ordeal, but he has found a new home with Nancy and Herb Woods of Port Angeles. The couple had sworn off dogs after their last one, but Harley stole their heart, the Daily News reports.

The story doesn't say whether anyone was ever arrested for the attack on Harley.
