Man does 'moon dance,' punches cop

Posted by John de Leon

-- From Times staff reporter Christine Clarridge:

A man who was dancing in the street half-naked while three acquaintances were filming him with a cell phone camera was arrested on a warrant and could face additional charges for obstructing justice, resisting arrest and assaulting an officer, according to a Seattle police report.

Seattle police said they were called to the 5600 block Martin Luther King Jr. Way South around 9:30 p.m. last Friday after receiving reports of a man dancing in the street with his pants around his ankles, exposing himself.

The three men who were filming the dancing man claimed they didn't know him, but insisted were trying to "help him."

Police ordered the three men to leave.

According to police reports, the dancing man fought with officers while they were trying to subdue him. He struck one officer in the face.

During the struggle, the three men who claimed the dancing man was a stranger shouted words of encouragement to him and called him by name, police said.

The dancer was ultimately subdued and arrested.
