Assault, robbery ends in trip to hospital -- for suspect

Posted by John de Leon

A man who robbed and assaulted another man was taken to the hospital early Saturday after he suffered some sort of medical emergency, police said.

According to police, the victim, a 26-year-old man, was trying to enter his apartment building in the 1600 block of Melrose Avenue at 2:30 a.m. when he was approached by another man, 52. The older man grabbed the victim's groin and took his wallet.

The victim fought back and two witnesses intervened, separating the two men. The older man then sat down and passed out, possibly suffering a heart attack.

Responding police officers began CPR on the suspect. Fire Department medics arrived and revived the man and took him to Harborview Medical Center.

The victim suffered cuts and bruises to his head but did not require treatment at a hospital, police said. Police recovered his wallet from the stricken man.

The suspect will be guarded at the hospital by an officer until he is released. He will then be booked into the King County jail for investigation of robbery, police said.
