Trooper injured in collision with suspected DUI driver

Posted by John de Leon

A State Patrol trooper suffered minor injuries yesterday afternoon when her patrol car was struck by a pickup driven by a suspected DUI driver in Federal Way, according to the State Patrol. The trooper, Stephanie Bjorkman, 31, was treated and later released from St Francis Hospital.

The accident happened around 4:30 p.m. when the driver of a speeding pickup lost control as he tried to turn from westbound Highway 18 to northbound 16th Avenue South. The pickup struck a sidewalk before going airborne and careening through the northbound lanes of 16th Avenue. The pickup then crossed the raised median and slammed into Bjorkman's patrol car, which was headed south on 16th.
