The accident happened at 11:39 p.m. when a car driven by Diandre D. Edgecombe, 25, pulled out of the Hilltop Store to head south on Highway 3 and collided with the second vehicle, which was heading north on the highway. The State Patrol said Edgecombe failed to yield the right of way to the second car.

Edgecombe was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the second car, a 46-year-old Bainbridge Island man, was not injured.

Five passengers in Edgecombe's car were injured. A 1-year-old boy and two women, ages 20 and 21, were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries. The other two were taken to Harrison Hospital in Bremerton, according to the State Patrol.
