Seattle's Fire and Police departments are holding a meeting on the recent arsons in the Greenwood neighborhood at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Upper Crust Bakery, 8420 Greenwood Ave. N., according to our news partners at PhinneyWood.com.

The arsons include one on Oct. 23 that was set in the Green Bean Coffee House, and spread to three other restaurants, Szechuan Bistro, C.C. Teriyaki and Pho Tic Tac. The Taproot Theatre and a business complex with second-floor apartments nearby also were damaged, mainly by water and smoke. Damage in that fire has been estimated at $2 million.

Two more arsons last Thursday hit the the back porch of an accounting business, CPA Seattle, at 300 N.W. 85th St.., and between two buildings at North 84th Street and Greenwood Avenue North.

In addition, Seattle Fire Department spokeswoman Dana Vander Houwen says two more fires were set about 11 p.m. Sunday behind a commercial building. They caused about $1,000 damage before they were put out. She says a third fire was reported by an arson patrol in the area that smelled smoke about 4 a.m. Monday. It caused about $20,000 damage to the back wall of a restaurant, the Olive You.

Vander Houwen says there have been five fires in the neighborhood in two weeks and other fires were reported there in June and August, according to The Associated Press.

The Seattle Fire Department has set up arson patrols and is distributing arson-prevention information in the Greenwood community in response to the arsons.
