Boy, 14, arrested in knife attack at Bainbridge Island High

Posted by John de Leon

A 14-year-old boy was arrested for investigation of assault on Monday after he attacked two Bainbridge Island High School students with a knife, according to Bainbridge Island police.

At 3:22 p.m., police responded to the high school, 9330 High School Road, after receiving reports of an assault in progress. Officers immediately located and arrested a 14-year-old Woodward Middle School student identified as the suspect. Police also found a small folding knife believed to have been used in the attacks.

Witnesses told police the suspect approached a 17-year-old Bainbridge Island High student and challenged him. The suspect swung the knife at the older boy, striking him in the upper arm and cutting him.

The suspect then confronted another high school student, police said. He swung the knife several times at the older boy, but did not injure him.

The second victim told the suspect to put the knife down and the suspect complied, police said. The high school student then tackled the suspect, but the suspect was able to break away and flee.

The first victim was treated by the school nurse for a small cut to his shoulder and released to his family. Police don't know the motive for the attacks.

The suspect was booked into the Kitsap County Juvenile Detention Center for investigation of first-degree assault with a deadly weapon and second-degree assault with a deadly weapon.

Bainbridge Island detectives are asking that anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information call Detective Trevor Ziemba at 206-842-5211.
