Greenwood-Phinney businesses urged to be 'vigilant' after arson

Posted by John de Leon

The Greenwood-Phinney Chamber of Commerce has sent out a note urging its members to be "vigilant" and report all suspicious activity to police in the wake of last month's arson that destroyed four businesses, according to our news partners at PhinneyWood.com.

Chamber President Steve Giliberto said the community must work even harder to stay safe, and everyone needs to look out for each other, according to the blog.

"We will continue to press for communication between the officered leadership staff of the Seattle Police Department's North Precinct and the community at large as to how best we can protect and defend Greenwood-Phinney against such criminal activity," the letter states. "Most importantly we have asked them to communicate what they as an organization plan to do to increase their efforts to prevent any further incidents occurring in the future. We will continue to update our constituency frequently."

Four businesses -- The Green Bean Coffee House, Szechuan Bistro, C.C. Teriyaki and Pho Tic Tac -- were destroyed in the fire Oct. 23 near the corner of North 85th Street and Greenwood Avenue North. Last week, fire investigators determined the $2 million fire was intentionally set. There have been no arrests.

The fire began inside The Green Bean Coffee House, according to Seattle Fire Department spokeswoman Helen Fitzpatrick.
