Four shooting victims finish testimony in Haq trial

Posted by Jennifer Sullivan

Four of the five women who survived being wounded by Naveed Haq during the 2006 shooting rampage at the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle have now all testified during his second trial.

King County jurors are now hearing from crime scene technicians who were dispatched to the federation's Belltown offices immediately after the July 28, 2006, shootings that left one woman dead in addition to the five wounded, said Dan Donohoe, spokesman for King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg.

Donohoe said this afternoon that victim Danya Klein has not yet taken the witness stand.

It's unclear how long the trial will last. Testimony began Wednesay.

This is the second time Haq has faced a King County jury for the shootings. His first trial ended in a mistrial last year after jurors said they were deadlocked on all but one of the 15 criminal counts he was facing. Prosecutors have reduced the charges against Haq in hopes of making deliberations less cumbersome for jurors.

Haq, 34, is being tried on eight counts -- one count of aggravated first-degree murder; five counts of attempted first-degree murder; one count of unlawful imprisonment; and one count of malicious harassment, the state's hate-crime law.

He has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
