KING-TV: New Everett ordinance targets bikini baristas

Posted by John de Leon

Five women from the Grab-N-Go espresso stand in Everett face prostitution charges.

The Everett City Council last night voted to add espresso stands to the list of places where lewd behavior is outlawed, according to our news partners at KING-TV.

The new provision to the city's existing lewd conduct ordinance specifically targets so-called bikini barista stands. Recently, several Everett baristas were accused of prostitution following an undercover sting by police by the Grab-N-Go Bikini Hut stand in Everett.

The undercover officers who paid extra say the female baristas stripped naked, fondling each other and exposed themselves. A $20 "whip cream show" featured a barista licking whipped cream off a co-worker's groin and breast, police allege. Baristas also charged to play "basketball," in which customers threw wadded cash, and baristas caught it in underwear or bikini bottoms, police said.

Bill Wheeler, owner of four Grab-N-Go stands in Snohomish County, has called the charges "B.S."

Lewd behavior in public places is already against the law in Everett. Under the new provisions, "public places" would now include businesses with drive-up windows, like espresso stands. KING-TV says the new ordinance does not address clothing.
