Illegal fireworks spark blaze at Arlington airport
Posted by John de Leon
Firefighters this afternoon doused a small fire that burned about 1,000 square feet of brush at the north end of the Arlington Municipal Airport.
The 1:15 p.m. fire was started by illegal fireworks lit by a resident who lives just northwest of the airport in 19700 block of 51st Drive Northeast, according to the Arlington Fire Department. The resident initially tried to extinguish the blaze with a garden hose, but quickly realized that he needed professionals.
"Arlington residents need to remember that fireworks are not to be discharged except on the Fourth of July and New Year's Eve," fire Capt. Jason Nyblod said in a news release.
