Sex offender charged with fondling boy at Vashon Island pool
Posted by Jennifer Sullivan
A 40-year-old convicted sex offender accused of fondling a 12-year-old boy at the Vashon Pool last month has been charged with second-degree child molestation.
Scott Shoenecker, who police say is homeless, grabbed the boy when the child was walking through the locker room and shoved his hand into the boy's swim trunks, according to court charging papers filed on June 26. The boy told King County sheriff's investigators that Shoenecker touched his buttocks and his genitals, court papers said.
After the boy managed to free himself from Shoenecker, he rushed onto the pool deck and told his 13-year-old friend and staff what happened, charging documents said. Shoenecker quickly left the public pool, court papers said.
On June 22, the day after the alleged groping, the victim's 13-year-old friend saw Shoenecker at the Vashon Library. The teen notified staff about the man being there, they noted Shoenecker's license plate and called police, court papers said.
Shoenecker was arrested in a nearby grocery store parking lot after police discovered that he had failed to register was a Level 3 sex offender and was being sought by his probation officer, charging papers said. Shoenecker told deputies that had been living in his car.
Shoenecker has prior convictions for second-degree child molestation and communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.
