Snohomish County deputy wounded in training mishap
Posted by John de Leon
A Snohomish County sheriff's deputy suffered a gunshot wound to the leg this afternoon during SWAT training at an Army facility in Yakima. The deputy's injury is non-life-threatening and he has been taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to department spokeswoman Rebecca Hover.
It appears the gunshot came from the deputy's rifle and that it was accidental, she said in a news release. The incident happened about 4 p.m.
The deputy is in his early 30s and has been with the Sheriff's Office for about five years, and a member of the SWAT team for about a year, Hover said. He worked for another law enforcement agency before joining the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office will conduct an administrative review of the incident after the lead investigative agency at the incident in Yakima completes its investigation, she said.
About 22 deputies from Snohomish County are in Yakima for SWAT training.
