Kitsap County SWAT bags five after Monday standoff

Posted by John de Leon

Kitsap County sheriff's deputies had to roll out the SWAT team -- along with some tear gas -- on Monday to arrest five people suspected of a variety of crimes.

Sheriff's deputies and detectives went to a home in the 4400 block of Sidney Road Southwest around 9:30 a.m. to serve a felony theft warrant on a 23-year-old woman. No one answered the door, but a deputy saw someone throw a firearm out of a bedroom window.

Bad move.

Sheriff's deputies surrounded the home and called in police from Port Orchard to assist. After several attempts to contact the occupants of the home, seven people walked out and surrendered. But two men remained inside.

However, they were convinced to leave the house through a bedroom window after some prompting by a well-placed canister of tear gas.

In addition to the five arrests, deputies also seized a quarter-pound of crystal methamphetamine, 3.5 grams of heroin, marijuana, a loaded.45-caliber semi-automatic handgun reported stolen out of Tacoma, and a 22-caliber semi-automatic handgun.
