Three teens found guilty of assaulting Seattle cop

Posted by Jennifer Sullivan

Three teens accused of attacking a Seattle police officer last June were found guilty in King County Juvenile Court today.

We're not naming the youths, two boys and girl, because they were tried as juveniles.

Following a bench trial, Juvenile Court Judge Chris Washington found a 17-year-old boy who kicked Seattle Police Officer Jason McKissack in the face guilty of third-degree assault. Two other youths, a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old girl, were found guilty of obstruction.

The youths will be sentenced June 19. The youths face a maximum of 30 days in jail, prosecutors said.

McKissack, a Southwest Precinct patrol officer, was responding to a 911 call in West Seattle about a fight between two males and a female when he witnessed a street-side brawl, according to a police report. McKissack saw a man pick up another and slam him on the ground, near 32nd Avenue Southwest and Southwest Raymond Street, the report said. When the officer intervened he was punched and kicked in the head, police said.

McKissack has been out of work recovering from injuries since the June 17 attack.
