Bill Nabel has heard compelling immigrant stories, of newcomers desperate for a better life in America, all his life. His parents came to the United States from a Nazi concentration camp in Poland. For the past dozen years, Nabel has been writing the new musical "Take Me America," which considers seven refugees desperately seeking asylum in the U.S. and the immigration agents who will help determine their fates.

Inspired by the true stories in the documentary "Well Founded Fear," librettist- lyricist Nabel joined with composer Bob Christianson to develop the dramatic show in the Village Theatre's 2009 Village Originals new works program.

Seen earlier in a workshop edition, "Take Me America" returns to the Village in a full-fledged, season-opening production directed by Jerry Dixon. Through Oct. 23 in Issaquah, and Oct. 28-Nov. 20 at the Everett Performing Arts Center. (866-688-8049 or www.villagetheatre.org)
