Five new works at ARC Dance's 'Summer Dance at the Center'

Seattle's ARC Dance presents five world premieres at "Summer Dance at the Center," including something new from Pacific Northwest Ballet's Kiyon Gaines.

'Summer Dance

at the Center'

Five new dance pieces will be premiered at ARC Dance's "Summer Dance at the Center" this weekend at Seattle Center — and the choreographic lineup looks promising. Pacific Northwest Ballet's Kiyon Gaines always comes up with vigorous, challenging work. And the others on the program have strong credentials.

They include ARC artistic director Marie Chong, ARC resident choreographer Betsy Cooper (performer with Seattle Dance Project and director of the University of Washington dance program), Penny Hutchinson (founding member of Mark Morris Dance Group) and Jason Ohlberg (Hubbard Street Dance Chicago).

8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Bagley Wright/Leo Kreielsheimer Theatre, 155 Mercer St., Seattle; $15-$25 (206-352-0798 or www.arcdance.org).
