Seattle Circle's nine guitarists trace musical orbits in "Tuning the Air"
Seattle Circle's "Tuning the Air" will pass its magical notes around the circumference of Fremont Abbey two more times before going on summer hiatus.
Seattle Circle presents two more "Tuning the Air" concerts before going on summer break. If you haven't heard these nine guitarists, grab your chance.
The shows are simultaneously trance-inducing and startling because, with guitars surrounding you on every side, there's no knowing where the next note will come from.
The sounds can be dulcimer-soft or pizzicato-sharp. Melodies get passed around a note at a time from player to player, making for a thrilling nine-way stereo effect that the ensemble hasn't figured out how to reproduce on CD yet. This one you have to hear live.
"Tuning the Air" will return in October, after this season's final concerts at 8 p.m. Thursday and July 1, Fremont Abbey Arts Center, 4272 Fremont Ave. N., Seattle, $10 (www.tuningtheair.com).
