Families are invited to come to the Burke and Meet the Mammals
Meet the Mammals is Nov. 14 at the Burke Museum at the University of Washington campus.
Meet the Mammals
10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture, University of Washington, 17th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 45th Street, Seattle; $6-$9.50 (206-543-5590 or www.burkemuseum.org).
Big, small and in-between, the 29 orders of mammals make their yearly appearance at the Burke Museum on Saturday for Meet the Mammals.
The Burke Museum will bring out its collection of mammal specimens and invites the public for a hands-on learning experience. Bones and pelts will be on display, and the museum's mammal experts will be on hand to answer questions.
Children are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite mammal and join the costume contests at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., as well as play games and create mammal art.
Giant whale skulls and fossils of prehistoric mammals will be on display, along with art associated with local native cultures. Specimens from the Burke archaeology and ethnology collections will highlight the use of mammals for food, clothing, tools and decoration in native cultures.
