Vogler Quartet marks the Berlin Wall's fall and 25 years together

The Vogler Quartet visits Meany Hall at the UW Nov. 4.

Founded in East Berlin in 1985, the Vogler Quartet is touring in celebration of its 25th anniversary — with all four original members — as well as the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Noted for their extraordinary musical intelligence, rich nuances and powerful interpretations of works from an extensive repertoire, the ensemble first gained international recognition when it took first prize at the International String Competition in Evian, France.

The Vogler Quartet plays at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Meany Theater at the University of Washington with a highly original program including "The Zimro Project: Golijov and Music of the New Jewish School"; Prokofiev's Overture on Hebrew Themes; Krejn's Prelude; selections from Achron's "Children's Suite"; Chajes' "Hebrew Suite"; and Golijov's "The Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind" for Klezmer clarinet and string quartet.

Meany Theater, 15th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 40th Street, University of Washington campus, Seattle; $34 (206-543-4880 or www.meany.org).
