"Don Quixote" gets the Baroque Marionette Opera treatment
"Don Quixote" gets the Baroque Marionette Opera treatment in a new production by the Northwest Puppet Center, playing April 17-26.
"Don Quixote"
When those little wooden characters sing, out of their mouths pour baroque arias of surpassing beauty. Yes, it's time once again for a Baroque marionette opera, staged with highly animated puppets by the Carter Family Marionettes. Music — vocal and instrumental — will be performed by esteemed early-music violist Margriet Tindemans and her ensemble of players and singers.
This is the 10th production of such a vintage work by the Carters. And it should be a treat to watch and hear this rarely performed version of the Cervantes tale of Don Quixote and his faithful servant, Sancho Panza, as set to music by Baroque master Georg Philipp Telemann in 1761.
"Don Quixote" opens Friday and plays Fridays-Sundays through April 26 at Northwest Puppet Center, 9123 15th Ave. N.E., Seattle; $25-$28 (206-523-2579 or www.nwpuppet.org).
