Seattle Symphony music director Gerard Schwarz is off to Germany next week, crutches and all. Schwarz, who broke his leg and his ankle skiing last month, will lead the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields and pianist Jonathan Biss on a tour of Hamburg, Cologne, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Munich and Stuttgart.

The Academy, which turns 50 this year, is a small, well-respected chamber ensemble based in London that has recorded extensively.

Schwarz is standing in for Sir Neville Marriner in programs that include works by Beethoven, Dvorak, Mendelssohn and Mozart. Marriner is taking time off for "personal reasons."
