Date for Symphony harassment trial set
A trial date of Sept. 24 has been set for a personal-injury lawsuit filed by violinist Peter Kaman against his employer, the Seattle Symphony Orchestra.
A trial date of Sept. 24 has been set for a personal-injury lawsuit filed by violinist Peter Kaman against his employer, the Seattle Symphony Orchestra. Kaman has been a member of the orchestra's first violin section since 1981, and he filed the suit in King County Superior Court in February 2006.
Via e-mail, Kaman said: "I have survived two motions to dismiss my case, one in Federal Court, and one in Superior Court. I am excited about having my case heard by an unbiased jury."
His complaint alleges "intentional emotional distress arising out of the hostile environment and harassment ... over a long and extended period of time." The suit also names symphony conductor Gerard Schwarz.
A press release issued by Kaman's attorney, Brenda J. Little, characterized the upcoming proceedings as "a trial ... poised to rival any Hollywood thriller."
Seattle Symphony executive director Thomas Philion responded: "While we disagree with Ms. Little's summary of the lawsuit and the underlying allegations, it is our policy to not comment about pending litigation." Schwarz also declined to make a statement.
