'Cinema Verite'
Imagine it's 1973, and the PBS network asks if they can follow your family around with cameras recording every detail of your family's life. Remember, this is before the "Real Housewives" franchise, before "Survivor" and before "The Real World." This new film looks at what happened when the Loud family agreed to participate in the documentary that would become great-grandfather of reality television. It stars Diane Lane, Tim Robbins and James Gandolfini. Premiere 9 p.m. Saturday on HBO.
Or for something completely different ...
'Dr. Who'
The Doctor is back for Season 6, set in late-1960s America. The two-part premiere was filmed in Utah's Monument Valley and features a character named Canton Everett Delaware III. Also, the new season features an episode written by (literary alert!) Neil Gaiman. Season premiere, 9 p.m. Saturday on BBC America (seattletimes.com/tvlistings).
