'The Time Machine' on TCM is a Friday TV pick
Watch George Pal's great 1960 version of the H.G. Wells story at 6:30 p.m. on TCM.

Friday night feels just right for a viewing of George Pal's great 1960 version of the H.G. Wells story of a scientist (Rod Taylor) who travels waaaaay into the future. The special effects won an Oscar. 6:30 tonight, TCM (seattletimes.com/tvlistings).

"Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?," 8 p.m. (Fox): Dean Cain, a Princeton grad and onetime Superman, bets on it.
"Aquapalooza on Lake Martin," 8 p.m. (CMT): Alan Jackson sings hits like "Summertime Blues," "Livin' on Love" and "Good Time" in front of 4,000 boats and 35,000 fans at Lake Martin, Ala.
"Dog Whisperer," 9 p.m. (National Geographic): Cesar Millan tames the bite of Argy, an aggressive English bulldog-Labrador mix, and helps Patches, who has a deadly appetite for paper products, find a new favorite treat.
"Friday Night with Jonathan Ross," 9 p.m. (BBC America): The guest list includes James May of "Top Gear," the designer Vivienne Westwood, and the singer-songwriters Rufus Wainwright and Paolo Nutini.
"Jockeys," 9 p.m. (Animal Planet): Chantal Sutherland and Kayla Stra fight for equal rights in the male-dominated world of racing. Iggy Puglisi gets a chance to ride in the biggest race of the day.
"Kevin Nealon: Now Hear Me Out," 9:30 p.m. (Showtime): Nealon takes a break from "Weeds" to wax philosophic on stupid phrases, talking on the phone in the car and being a first-time father.
