"Earth Report: State of the Planet"

It's Earth Day, so let's take an electronic trip around the globe and check things out, from the effects of earthquakes and hurricanes, to the state of coral reefs and the Arctic. I know it's the TV equivalent of broccoli, but hey, it's good for you. 8 tonight, National Geographic (seattletimes.com/tvlistings).

Also on today

"Lie to Me," 8 p.m. (Fox): Lightman's ex-wife (Jennifer Beals), an assistant United States district attorney, hires him to investigate an arson case in which the victim has accused a childhood friend, now a well-known television reporter, of burning down his house.

"Better Off Ted," 8:30 p.m. (ABC): Ted (Jay Harrington) loses his job when he tries to fix the misspelled name on his employee I.D., and the Veridian system deletes him; the lab gang takes drastic steps to help him get it back.

"Jean-Michel Cousteau: Ocean Adventures," 9 p.m. (KCTS): In this two-hour episode, Cousteau and his team travel from the Arctic to the Antarctic in search of killer whales — the most complex marine species on earth, of which fewer than 100,000 remain — and compare their needs to those of humans.

"Lost," 9 p.m. (ABC): This hourlong retrospective examines events in the lives of the Oceanic 6 and the other survivors in the three years after Ben moved the island.

"Garbage Moguls," 9 p.m. (National Geographic): Tom Szaky and his staff of "eco-capitalists" at TerraCycle Inc. make products from trash, including cereal boxes transformed into notebooks, newspaper made into pencils and cookie wrappers converted into kites.

"South Park," 10 p.m. (Comedy Central): The 13th season goes out with a bang, and probably a whimper.
