For nearly three decades, Dimitriou's Jazz Alley has been a keystone of Seattle's jazz scene. The downtown nightclub has attracted the country's leading jazz musicians — big names such as Eartha Kitt, Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans and Dizzy Gillespie — making Seattle a must-stop on the national touring circuit.

This week, the Seattle Channel's "Art Zone" program profiles the man who made it happen: Jazz Alley owner John Dimitriou. Singer/actress Kabibi Monie hosts, and the program airs tonight, Friday and Saturday.

The show features footage of live performances and interviews with musicians and other jazz personalities, including Taj Mahal, Marian McPartland, KPLU's Dick Stein and The Seattle Times' Paul de Barros.

Jazz Alley is at 2033 Sixth Ave., where Tower of Power performs this week. For information about the club, call 206-441-9729 or go to www.jazzalley.com.

"Art Zone" provides local viewers with 12 hours of arts-related programming airing and streaming live) from 8 p.m. to midnight Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

It is broadcast to some 187,000 Seattle households. Programs are also streamed live at www.seattlechannel.org.
