TV briefs: "60 Minutes" to do piece on Jon Stewart

NEW YORK — How's this for a feud that straddles the line between politics and entertainment: CNN's bow-tied conservative Tucker Carlson vs. "The Daily Show" host Jon Stewart.

On CNN's "Crossfire," Stewart had angered Carlson by saying the debate show is "partisan hackery" that does little to advance the cause of democracy.

After the confrontation, Carlson said the Comedy Central star looked ridiculous during his CNN appearance and was a sellout for publicly backing Democrat John Kerry for president.

And that was the mild stuff.

But even before Stewart went on "Crossfire," he complained about cable news to "60 Minutes' " Steve Kroft.

Kroft's profile will air at 7 p.m. Sunday on CBS (KIRO).

Big duh: ABC orders more "Housewives" and "Lost"

In one of its easiest calls in several years, ABC has given full-season orders to its two first-year hits, "Desperate Housewives" and "Lost."

Given the out-of-the-box success of both shows, it's almost a little surprising the network waited this long to make the announcement. "Desperate Housewives" is the most-watched new series of the season — and third overall — while "Lost" is No. 3 among first-year shows (CBS' "CSI: NY" is second).

The two ABC shows join NBC's "Joey" and The WB's "Jack & Bobby" in earning full-season orders.
