Top 10 Fails of 2011: Congress, Westboro, Kardashian ....
Posted by Brier Dudley
Talk about click bait.
There's a glut of year-end top 10 lists lately, but Seattle online humor network Cheezburger is posting a few doozies today.
They include the top fails of 2011, as voted on by visitors to Cheezburger's FAIL blog, which posts "pictures and videos of the well-intentioned failing at something they are supposed to do, or displaying blatant stupidity or incompetence."
Last year's winner Justin Bieber was bumped aside by Congress, which was declared the biggest failure of the year in a vote by 60,000 participating members of the FAIL blog community.
When you consider the competition, that was quite an accomplishment for our team in Washington, D.C.
"Every year, we have one person who really stands out as the biggest FAIL person of the year, but this year all 535 members of Congress get to share the crown," said Ben Huh, Cheezburger founder and chief executive.
"We try not to take ourselves too seriously, so it's somewhat painful to see Congress win this award when you have people like Kim Kardashian, Rebecca Black and Charlie Sheen on the list," he said.
Here's the list of year's top FAIL people:
1. Congress
2. Westboro Baptist Church
3. Kim Kardashian
4. Rebecca Black
5. Charlie Sheen
6. Muammar Gaddafi
7. Casey Anthony
8. Jerry Sandusky
9. Lindsay Lohan
10. Anthony Weiner
Then there are the site's top 10 most memorable FAIL moments of 2011:
1. Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries' marriage
2. Congress declares pizza a vegetable
3. Harold Camping's prediction of the Rapture
4. Occupy protests
5. The Internet censorship bill
6. Mariah Yeater accuses Justin Bieber of fathering her baby
7. The GOP debates
8. Anthony Weiner shows his weiner
9. Trump raises questions about Obama's birth certificate
10. Sony gets attacked by Lulzsec
Roll your eyes if you like, but Huh's laughing all the way to the bank. FAIL blog videos set a YouTube record of more than 1 billion video views, and the Cheezburger network has an audience of 24 million who view 500 million of its pages and 110 million of its videos a month.
Speaking of which, here's the top FAIL video of the year:
