Xbox posts record sales in Black Friday selling spree

Posted by Brier Dudley

It really was a glossy Black Friday for Microsoft.

The company today said Xbox sales went crazy over the Thanksgiving holiday, making it the biggest week yet in the console's 10-year history.

Temporary price cuts of $50 to $100 helped sell more than 960,000 consoles in the U.S. last week, including 800,000 sold during a single 24-hour selling spree Friday.

The company also sold more than 750,000 Kinect sensors last week, according to Microsoft's internal data.

"Xbox 360 was among the best-sellers at Best Buy this Black Friday, and is a testament to the continued popularity of the gaming category this holiday," Chris Homeister, senior vice president and general manager of home entertainment at Best Buy, said in Microsoft's press release.

Those boxes will see a major software upgrade on Monday when Microsoft rolls out a new Xbox interface and new entertainment services.
