Microsoft's Halo, Ubisoft's Assassin roll into Hollywood

Posted by Brier Dudley

The LA Times has an overview of how Microsoft and Ubisoft are producing films based on their video games, including anime versions of "Halo" and live-action shorts previewing Ubisoft's "Assassin's Creed 2."

It's about maintaining control of the franchise, Microsoft's Frank O'Connor told the paper:

"If you look at how George Lucas held on to 'Star Wars,' not just to make money from action figures but to control the direction the universe went in, you can see why we think it's pretty vital," said O'Connor, creative director for 343 Industries, the Microsoft division that oversees all Halo products. "Luckily, Microsoft has the resources to enable us to do that."

Maybe it also has something to do with Microsoft's difficulties getting others in Hollywood to ever produce a "Halo" movie.
