E3: Valve on the Wii or iPhone? Maybe someday
Posted by Brier Dudley
LOS ANGELES -- One way Nintendo could draw more hardcore gamers to the Wii would be to enlist Bellevue's Valve Software to the platform.
Especially now that the Motionplus adds more precision control needed for games such as Valve's "Left 4 Dead" zombie-killing franchise.
Apparently it's not that farfetched. Valve spokesman Doug Lombardi said the Wii is "definitely a viable platform" but the company is limited by its size -- its 200 people are pretty busy on Xbox and PC games and the company's Steam game network.
Lombardi also said the iPhone is intriguing, and Valve is especially interested in Microsoft's Project Natal after being briefed on the device.
Natal potentially will have the same effect on gaming as the debut of 3-D graphics cards on the PC, he said.
"Input is the new revolution right now,'' he said, listing Natal as well as the Wii's motion control and the iPhone's touch controls.
Scary to think about what it would be like to play Valve's new "Left 4 Dead 2" with an immersive motion control system, letting you physically wield a frying pan or a chainsaw.
