Winter storm bearing down on Washington

After one last day of fall weather, forecasters say a winter storm will blow across Washington Friday with winds, rain and snow followed by frigid temperatures.

After one last day of fall weather, forecasters say a winter storm will blow across Washington Friday with winds, rain and snow followed by frigid temperatures.

The National Weather Service forecasts high winds Friday on the coast and Strait of Juan de Fuca.

The storm will bring rain to Western Washington and one to two feet of snow in the Olympics and Cascades by Saturday. Drivers should prepare for delays in the passes.

The Transportation Department is closing Chinook and Cayuse passes and the North Cascades Highway today and will decide Monday whether to keep them closed for the winter.

Arctic cold will maintain the chance of snow through Sunday in Western Washington, the mountains and most of Eastern Washington, including Spokane.
