WASHINGTON — Taj McWilliams-Franklin scored 21 points in her return to Washington, Deanna Nolan added 17 points and 10 rebounds and the Detroit Shock used a strong fourth quarter to beat the Mystics 84-69 Saturday night.
Katie Smith and Plenette Pierson each scored 13 points for the Shock (19-12), which snapped a two-game road losing skid and pulled 1 ½ games behind the first-place Connecticut Sun in the Eastern Conference.
Detroit outscored the Mystics 26-11 in the fourth quarter. The Shock beat visiting Indiana 90-68 Friday.
"It was big because we are obviously trying to position ourselves for the playoffs," Smith said. "It's tough coming down here on a back to back and, by all means, we didn't take care of business until the end of the game."
McWilliams-Franklin started 26 games for the Mystics earlier this year before being traded to Detroit.
Monique Currie scored 15 points for Washington (10-20), which was eliminated from the race for playoff berths.

Sparks 84, at Comets 66
DeLisha Milton-Jones scored 16 points to help Los Angeles (19-13) rout Houston (14-16).
The third-place Sparks clinched a Western Conference playoff berth. The top four teams in each conference advance to the playoffs. Seattle and San Antonio also are assured of making the playoffs.
"It was the first game in a long time that we played 40 minutes of good basketball," Los Angeles coach Michael Cooper said. "We had some downs when we started the game, but we kept our composure, especially after losing a tough game to San Antonio last night."
Tina Thompson scored 18 points for the Comets.
