Storm releases former UW player Kristen O'Neill
The Storm cut former University of Washington player Kristen O'Neill on Thursday.

The Storm cut training-camp invitee Kristen O'Neill on Thursday.
O'Neill, a versatile 6-foot-1 guard, played at Meadowdale High School and Washington. She spent two years overseas in Spain and Ireland after graduation in 2006 before trying out for a WNBA team.
O'Neill, a solid defender, lasted so long at Storm camp in part because of late arrivals and her work ethic. She was often the last player off the court, taking shots either alone or with the male practice players.
O'Neill's determination is why Storm coach Brian Agler found it hard to make the cut.
"[It's] always difficult, but letting Kristen go was an incredibly tough decision," said Agler, who is also director of player personnel, in a statement released by the team. "Kristen is very competitive. She is a great defender, shoots the ball well and her work ethic is unmatched.
"I've encouraged her to continue to work hard and to stay prepared to capitalize if the opportunity arises."
O'Neill averaged 2.5 points and one rebound in two exhibition games with Seattle.
If O'Neill isn't picked up by another team, Storm CEO Karen Bryant discussed retaining the fellow Edmonds native for work within the organization this summer. O'Neill, a fan favorite because of her local ties, could also be signed later by the Storm.
"It's always great to have a local player in camp," Bryant said in a news release. "I know a lot of fans were rooting for Kristen. We were all very impressed by her."
