Boys Basketball Class 2A: No. 1 Lyncs finish on topYAKIMA — Kyle Coston, the tournament MVP, scored a game-high 25 points to lead top-ranked Lynden Christian past fifth-ranked King's 53-36 Saturday night at the Yakima SunDome for the Class 2A boys state basketball championship. The Lyncs (25-2) won their fourth boys state championship, but the first in Class 2A. Coston, a 6-foot-8 senior headed for Portland State next season, was the target of late hacks and grabs by the Knights as they tried desperately to rally. Coston went to the foul line seven times in the final quarter. The Knights (23-4) from Shoreline cut Lynden Christian's lead to seven late in the third quarter, but couldn't get any closer. "We knew they had to foul down the stretch and shoot threes and make us miss," said Coston, who was 10 of 16 at the free-throw line. "It was big to finish like that. It really started to sink in when I was shooting free throws. It's still sinking in. It's big. It's the 2A championship." Cory Hendricks added 14 points and nine rebounds for the Lyncs, who were playing in their 100th state-tournament game and have won 66. King's shot only 26 percent (13 of 50) while the Lyncs shot 48.6 percent (18 of 37). Charlie Enquist, named to the all-tournament first team, led the Knights with 12 points and seven rebounds despite spending most of the second half on the bench with foul trouble. Lopez scored 21 for Grandview (22-6), which shot only 28.9 percent. Vashon's other state trophy came in 1999 when the Pirates placed sixth after losing in the semifinals to a Blaine team led by Luke Ridnour that went on to win the title.
