Luis Fabiano not worried about goal drought

Brazil striker Luis Fabiano isn't worried about his goal drought coming into the World Cup.

JOHANNESBURG —

Brazil striker Luis Fabiano isn't worried about his goal drought coming into the World Cup.

He hasn't scored in eight matches with Brazil dating back to a World Cup qualifier against Argentina in September.

"I know it's normal, I have to keep trying and the ball will eventually go in," Luis Fabiano said. "I can't worry about it, it's how it goes for strikers."

Luis Fabiano was Brazil's top scorer in last year's Confederations Cup with five goals, helping his nation win the title with two goals in a 3-2 win over the United States in the final.

But he failed to get on the board in the team's final warmups before the World Cup, a 3-0 win over Zimbabwe and a 5-1 routing of Tanzania.

"I'm not worried, they were different types of matches, the idea here was to see if I was fit from my recent injury," Luis Fabiano said.

The Sevilla striker arrived in South Africa nursing a sore left thigh that forced him out of several matches last season, including Brazil's friendly against Ireland in March. He made a slow recovery, but has returned to full strength and is expected to be in the starting lineup in Brazil's World Cup opener next Tuesday against North Korea.

"Now will be the time to show that I'm well, to start playing and scoring goals again," the 29-year-old said.

Before last year's Confederations Cup, Luis Fabiano pledged to score a goal per match, and came through on his promise. But he's making no such predictions for the World Cup.

"Strikers are there to score, but first I will try to help Brazil win its matches," said Luis Fabiano, who sees European champion Spain as the strongest challenger to Brazil for the World Cup title. "If I become the leading scorer, the better."

Meantime, Luis Fabiano, who has 25 goals in 38 matches with Brazil, has found the perfect solution to keep him calm during his goal drought.

"I brought a DVD with my goals," he joked. "I keep watching it from time to time."
