Georgia defensive end Montez Robinson jailed

Georgia defensive end Montez Robinson was suspended indefinitely from the team Friday following his arrest Thursday on charges involving two altercations with a female student.

ATHENS, Ga. —

Georgia defensive end Montez Robinson was suspended indefinitely from the team Friday following his arrest Thursday on charges involving two altercations with a female student.

Robinson, 19, was released from the Athens-Clarke County jail on $2,000 bond Friday afternoon after being charged with misdemeanor simple battery and felony criminal damage.

It was Robinson's second arrest in a week. He was charged with underage possession of alcohol Monday after police responded to a call about glass breaking in a parking deck.

Coach Mark Richt said he was "certainly disappointed" as he announced Robinson's suspension.

"We have expectations and standards for our student-athletes and his actions are not in line with those," Richt said. "We are suspending him indefinitely from all team activities."

Robinson is charged with assaulting the student on Oct. 20 and criminal damage for allegedly breaking taillights on her car Monday.

Robinson, a freshman from Avon, Ind., has played as a backup this season. He excelled in his chance for more playing time against Tennessee Tech on Nov. 7. He had five tackles and two sacks and was named Southeastern Conference defensive lineman of the week.
