STOCKHOLM —

Jing Zhao of China has set a world record in the women's 50-meter backstroke at a short-course World Cup meet.

Jing won a qualifying heat Tuesday in 26.08 seconds, beating the previous record of 26.17 set by Marieke Guehrer of Australia four days ago at the World Cup in Moscow.

Jing's record was set on the first day of competitions in Stockholm.
