Rainiers lose to Sacramento

TACOMA — Tacoma hitters went 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position and lost 4-2 to Sacramento in a Pacific Coast League game before 2,951 at Cheney Stadium Monday night.

Left-hander Jason Vargas, who is 3-3 in 11 starts for the Mariners this year, started for the Rainiers (45-50) and allowed three runs and nine hits in six innings.

Jerry Owens went 4 for 5 and produced Tacoma's only runs. In the third, he singled, stole second and reached third on an error before scoring on a wild pitch. Owens also had an RBI single in the ninth.
