Financier Mayer to run NY UFL franchise
Financier William E. Mayer will be the owner of the United Football League's New York franchise.

Mayer is the founder of Park Avenue Equity and will run one of the four teams in the UFL, which will start its first season in October. The league is currently holding tryouts in Las Vegas.
The New York team will be coached by Ted Cottrell, a longtime NFL defensive coordinator. Other coaches in the league are former NFL head coaches: Jim Fassel, Dennis Green and Jim Haslett.
The league will have teams in New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Orlando, Fla., and will also play games in Hartford, Conn., Los Angeles and Sacramento, Calif. It will be televised by the Versus network with a championship game to be televised over Thanksgiving weekend.
