KENNEWICK — Three down, one to go for Kentwood tennis player Max Manthou.

Manthou claimed his third consecutive Class 4A boys singles championship Saturday at the Tri-City Court Club, getting past Kentridge junior Matt Overland 6-2, 7-6.

A week ago, Manthou beat Overland 6-0, 6-4 for the West Central District title.

If he chooses to play high-school tennis again next spring, Manthou will have a chance to become the first four-time Class 4A boys singles champ.

In 4A girls singles, Meghan Cassens of Decatur stopped Antonia Liebenow of Lake Stevens 6-1, 6-1 in the final. Cassens was state runner-up as a freshman a year ago. Her victory helped Decatur tie Kamiakin and Newport for the girls team championship. Richland won the boys crown.

Allen wins in 3A

VANCOUVER — Natalie Allen of Holy Names won the Class 3A girls singles title, beating Mercer Island sophomore Chelsea Bailey 6-2, 6-4 at Vancouver Tennis Complex.

It was a rematch of their Sea-King District final last weekend, which Allen also won.

She got to the title match with a difficult, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 semifinal triumph over Victoria Tam of Union.

Anissa Bryant-Swift and Malia Lum of Sammamish stopped Catherine Fitch and Catherine Phelps of Lakeside in the doubles title match, 6-2, 6-2.

Mercer Island edged Union for the 3A girls team title.

In the boys tournament, Andrew LaCava and Jason Bediones won a boys doubles championship, helping Seattle Prep take the team crown. Lance Wilhelm of Peninsula was the singles champ.
