Hold off on looking for Tyrone Willingham in the United Football League next season.
A couple of days after it was widely reported that Tyrone Willingham was ready to join the staff of the San Francisco franchise in the new UFL — set to begin play this fall — FootballScoop.com reported instead that the former Husky coach and the team "were unable to reach an agreement." FootballScoop and FootballCoachScoop.com had each reported that Willingham would join the staff of the San Francisco team.
A spokeswoman for the league said she could not confirm or deny anything and that assistant coach hires for the UFL's four teams are expected to be announced in the next few weeks. Willingham was reported to be in line to be running backs and special teams coach for San Francisco.
The San Francisco team has announced that its head coach will be Dennis Green, a former NFL coach for whom Willingham worked as an assistant at Stanford and then with the Minnesota Vikings.
Willingham relocated to the Bay Area after being fired at UW following last season, when the Huskies finished 0-12 — the worst record in school history — giving him an 11-37 mark in his four years at Washington.
The UFL's Web site says it will have four teams playing in seven markets this season — Las Vegas/Los Angeles, New York/Hartford, Orlando, and San Francisco/Sacramento.
